Fable 3 a hero's journey

Game Narrative: Analyse existing video game with respect to Hero’s Journey

Fable III



I have based my hero’s journey on the game Fable III which is the third in the Fable, It focuses on the player's struggle to overthrow the King of Albion by forming alliances and building support for a revolution.
The Ordinary World
Your character is the sibling of the King of the Albion the world the game is based in, you can choose between begin a prince or princess, at the beginning of the game you are unaware of your brothers rule and the devastation he has caused to the people of Albion, you gain this knowledge from your characters love interests, , but your brother king logon makes you choose you either kill a group of towns people or your love interest.



Choose between killing else(the love interest or civilians).




The Call to Adventure
After this ordeal you escape the castle with your mentor Walter and servant jasper, you must build up alliances strong enough to overthrown your brother, you make your way through series of towns n villages building relations.

Refusal of the Call
A hero is the only person who can overthrow the king and the leader the people of Albion, but your character is told that he/she is a hero but its not until, during your escape, when you receive the Guild Seal, which only a hero can process. Now your on your way.

Meeting the Mentor
Sir Walter Beck is your mentor, you meet him before the whole escaping. Its with him he teaches you have to fight. Walter is your main guide, he is the one how believe that you are the hero to save Albion.

Crossing the Threshold
The final and most difficult of the hero’s task is when you travel to Aurora a desert land across the ocean. Your hero go to Aurora to search for allies, but what you encounter is a creature called the "Crawler, ruler of the Darkness," which has already devastated Aurora and intends to exterminate all life in the Kingdom of Albion. You travel here with Walter, but but Walter is captured by the darkness and nearly dies. You have the choose of leaving Walter to died or bring him, you leave Walter. The darkness then tries to confuses you and make you feel quitly for leaving walter. When you overcome this you meet Kalin the leader of aurora. You finds the terror that the darkness has done, and the broken promise you brother has made you make a promise to kalin and she in turns joins you and now you return to Albion to overthrown your brother.

Tests, Allies, Enemies
The main of part of your hero’s journey is gathering allies to aid in a overthrown of Logan. Some of the allies you gain include the "Dwellers," a nomadic community that lives in the mountains; Major Swift, a Royal Army officer in command of a remote fort; Page, the leader of the "Bowerstone Resistance"; and Kalin, the leader of Aurora.

The Road Back
Now your hero has gained all the allies they need to over throw the king. The Battle for Albion begins. You work your way through the streets of Bowerstone to the castle. You fight your way through logans army, with the help of your allies. Onces you make your way to the castle and find your brother he is taken in as an enemy of the state. At the Judging of logan, he tell you all the wrong doing he has done is for the good of Albion, because he learnt that darkness is on its way to destroy Albion. And you have the choose then of killing and sparing logans life.

The Ordeal
Now as king or queen of Albion you have to make some very tough decisions, you need to raise money to save your people but to do so you need to make decisions between good and evil the good, will drain your funds but the people will love you for it, and you have to use your own gold to fund the army. Evil side will raise your fund but the people will hate you, so you need to make you choose.

Consider Proposal to Rebuild the Old Quarter
• Rebuild the Old Quarter - One time loss of 550,000 Gold, Good morality boost, access to rent and shops
• Leave the Old Quarter in Ruins - Lose no Gold, Evil morality boost, no more Old Quarter properties or shops

Set the Guard Budge:
• Raise the Guard Budget - One time loss of 200,000 Gold, Good morality boost
• Lower the Guard Budget - One time gain of 200,000 Gold, Evil morality boost
• Maintain the Status Quo - No morality boost and no gold lost or gained


The Resurrection
After the all decision making bases on your rule you will gain a pair of white wings if you have made overwhelmingly Good decisions, or Red wings if you have been Evil.
Now you must face the darkness.
The final encounter is a processed Walter, once your mentor but you must forget that and defeat him for the best of Ablion.

Reward
If you successfully raise all the money needed to save all your people, you gain the Tough Love Achievement , and the Albion is left the way, before the darkness attacked.

Return with the Elixir
After the battle against the darkness you are returned back to your castle, yor hero is now the true hero of Albion saving the people.

The Hero
Taking place five decades after the events of Fable 2, Fable 3 takes the player into the world of Albion as it races through the industrial age under the rule of a tyrant king, Logan. The Hero must face Logan, who happens to be the brother of the main character, and become the new ruler of Albion. After ascending the throne, the player must act as he or she sees fit to rule the kingdom, and protect it from invasion

Mentor
Sir Walter Beck is a companion character in Fable III, acting as the Hero's mentor and combat trainer, as well as Logan's assistant and adviser at the start of Fable III.
Walter leads the Hero to many places to gather allies and is shown to have connections with several key members of the revolution even though he was closely associated with the royal family.

Threshold Guardian
Being over five hundred years of age, she is one of the oldest known beings in Albion, as well one of the most deep and important characters with powerful yet unclear motives.
She’s a guide to the hero and is frequently referred to as "The Blind Seeress".

Herald
Logan is the tyrannical ruler of the Kingdom of Albion in Fable III, after theHero of Bowerstone’s death. He is seen as a tyrant due to his treatment of the kingdom.
It is revealed that Logan once visited the kingdom of Aurora on an expedition four years ago. There, he discovered the Darkness and the Crawler. All of his men were slain and he was almost killed himself.
Theresa appears and tells him that this darkness will come for Albion in the next five years. This revelation changed him from a just ruler to a tyrant, as he was forced to make cruel decisions to save the kingdom from certain destruction.

Shapeshifter/ Trickster
Reaver is an ex-pirate turned business man, factory owner, slum lord and the Hero of Skill.
In one mission you are forced to battle enemy for his pleasure.
As queen/king you have to make decisions and his ones are always the evil decisions.

The Shadow
The Crawler is the primary antagonist of Fable III. In Aurora the Crawler begins to psychologically attack the group. When it first attacks Walter, it leaves him blind until the Aurorans find him and help him.
Each of its appearances, the Crawler ceaselessly berates the Hero and his companions It taunts and mocks the Hero about the futility of his mission, and the darkness that will overwhelm the world.

Conclusion
The hero of Albion at the beginning is unknown to the terror cause by his brothers rules and the reasons for it. The hero escapes the castle to gain alliances and experience to overthrown king Logan, you are helped by your mentor Walter. On one part of your journey you encounter the greatest evil only to find out when you become queen/king that its on its way to attack the kingdom, once king/queen have to make very rough decisions, on completion of the game you either come out as a good or bad rulers.
